A man and his three children were in a critical condition in hospital today after a suspected gas blast at their home.

The explosion in Glendoher Close, Rathfarnham, south Dublin, demolished the house.

A spokesman for Tallaght Hospital said the four suffered burns and broken bones while the mother was uninjured in the explosion.

The cause of the blast is not known but it is believed it may have been caused by a gas leak.

Crews from Bord Gáis, as well as firefighters and ambulances, were at the scene.
