Sailor withdraws drugs ban appeal

Former Australia winger Wendell Sailor has decided to accept a two-year doping ban for taking cocaine.

Former Australia winger Wendell Sailor has decided to accept a two-year doping ban for taking cocaine.

The Australian Rugby Union suspended Sailor after he tested positive following New South Wales’ clash with ACT Brumbies on April 16.

“I have decided to withdraw my appeal in the Court of Arbitration of Sport,” said the former Leeds rugby league star in a statement.

“Ultimately, I accept that it was my error of judgement that has placed me in this position.

“I cannot stress enough that I did not and would never have attempted to cheat in sport through any means.

“Unfortunately I, like many other young Australians, fell to the off-field temptation of a so-called ’party drug’.”

Sailor, 32, has stated his intention to return to competitive rugby when his two-year suspension ends.
