Man held in connection with stabbing of woman

A man remains in custody in Kildare this morning in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old mother of one in Athy.

A man remains in custody in Kildare this morning in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old mother of one in Athy.

Breda Cummins, who was originally from Celbridge, was stabbed during an argument at a house at Michael Dooely Terrace in Athy just after midnight on Wednesday night.

A man in his 30s was also injured in the knife attack.

A 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

He is being questioned at Kildare garda station under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.
