McCarthy: We'll have to be at our best

Limerick manager Justin McCarthy will tonight confirm his team for Sunday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final showdown with Tipperary, and both of the Moran brothers, Niall and Ollie, are pushing for selection.

Niall Moran had to undergo surgery after breaking his finger in a qualifier win over Wexford, and he subsequently sat out the wins against Laois and Dublin.

The Ahane clubman returned to training in recent days but remains 'doubtful' as he faces a race against time to prove his fitness for the weekend's clash.

His older brother Ollie, an All-Star in 2007, was dropped earlier in the summer.

However, he put in a strong showing as a first half substitute in the quarter-final victory against Dublin and looks set to break back into the side.

McCarthy told the Limerick Leader: "We are expecting a tremendous challenge from Tipperary.

"We know that they are one of the best teams in the country and we realise that we will have to be at our very best to keep up with them.

"We're looking forward to the game. Every weekend you get to play hurling is a great weekend."

Sunday's game will be the 10th Championship encounter between Limerick and Tipperary since 2000, with the Shannonsiders boasting only one win in those previous nine games - an epic, extra-time success in the 2007 Munster semi-final's second replay.
