Facebook refuse to remove offensive page about Meagher murder accused

Australian police say Facebook has refused to take down a page containing offensive material about the man accused of murdering Irish woman Jill Meagher.

Adrian Ernest Bayley has been charged with the rape and murder of the 29-year-old Co Louth woman whose body was found in a shallow grave 50km from Melbourne.

Jill's disappearance sparked a huge social media campaign but several hate pages sprung up after her body was recovered.

Chief Victoria State Police Commissioner Ken Lay says Facebook had been approached about taking down one page in particular which contained offensive material about Bayley but the social networking site refused.
