Woods' kids keen to see him on TV

Tiger Woods has revealed a new incentive as he tries to climb back to the top - his children want to see him on television.

The former world number one fell outside the top 50 last season, but is now up to 18th after finishing third, first and third in his last three tournaments.

Woods had two children before he and Swede Elin Nordegren were divorced in 2010 following his sex scandal. Daughter Sam will be five in June, while son Charlie is three tomorrow.

“My kids are of an age where they want to see dad on TV,” said Woods today at Pebble Beach, where he is practising for the start of the AT&T National Pro-am on Thursday.

He has told them it will happen more the better he plays and they have told him to go do it then.

“Golf is more enjoyable than it used to be,” added the 36-year-old 14-major winner.

Woods is making his first appearance in America since he won the Chevron World Challenge in December.

His only tournament so far this year was the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship two weeks ago when he was in the final group on the final day, but suffered a surprise defeat to England’s Robert Rock.

Woods hit only two fairways and six greens in regulation in his closing level-par 72, but is taking the positives out of not just the week, but also that round.

“That was my bad day of ball-striking and it was not that bad – I ran through some fairways and I putted from off the green four times. It was not that big a deal. I hope going forward that’s my bad day – if it is we’re looking pretty good.”
