A gunman who took hostages at the Discovery Channel's headquarters in the US has been shot dead by police.

A gunman who took hostages at the Discovery Channel's headquarters in the US has been shot dead by police.

Police held several hours of talks with the man, who is named locally as James Lee, and is said to have had a grudge with the TV channel.

Montgomery police chief Tom Manger said officers opened fire because they thought the gunman was about to detonate explosives strapped to his chest:
