Wallace serves up American Pie

Mark Wallace is looking forward to saddling his first runner in America on Saturday when Eat Pie goes for a Grade Three juvenile fillies’ contest at Arlington.

The Newmarket trainer is calling in at the Chicago track to supervise his runner in the Arlington-Washington Breeders’ Cup Lassie over a mile on his way to the Keeneland Sales.

And Wallace believes the daughter of Thunder Gulch has sound prospects in the race run on Polytrack.

She has already shown a liking for that surface having made a winning debut at Lingfield, before only being beaten three lengths when seventh to You’resothrilling in the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket on her other start.

“She wasn’t beaten far in the Cherry Hinton, she’s not run since and I’m just hoping she might run into a place. It would be great if she did,” said Wallace.

“We hope to get some black type, then she might be worth a few quid – she’s got a very good pedigree.

“She’s American bred – we bought her in Keeneland – and she won her maiden first time up in good style and ran well on the Cherry Hinton (over six furlongs) but probably needed further.

“So we decided to send her over to America. It’s on the Polytrack and she loves that surface.

“She’ll probably stay over in America and may go to the November Sales over there. Saturday’s the plan so we’ll see how she gets on.

“She went over about three weeks ago and is staying at Eddie Kenneally’s stables.

“If she stays over there after Saturday she might remain with Eddie, he’s been a massive help.”
