Celtic have identified Spanish striker Diego Tristan as a possible replacement for John Hartson.
Manager Gordon Strachan is keen to add experience to his young side ahead of the new season and the 30-year-old Deportivo La Coruna forward fits the bill.
But the Scottish champions face stiff competition in the shape of Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Deportivo president Augusto Lendoiro said: “It is probable that there will be news in the next few days. He will probably go abroad.
“The interest from Benfica is certain, as is that from Sporting Lisbon and Celtic. Although, in each case, it would be necessary to negotiate.”
