Ministers shrug off poor poll showing for Govt

Ministers from the three coalition parties are blaming a bad week in terms of publicity for the Government's poor showing in an opinion poll this morning.

Ministers from the three coalition parties are blaming a bad week in terms of publicity for the Government's poor showing in an opinion poll this morning.

The poll shows support for the Government, the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil have all plummeted since the general election.

However, ministers do not appear to be too worried by the figures.

Minister for Finance Brian Cowen, Energy Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister for Health Mary Harney all said this morning they believed the poor showing was related to a number of recent controversies.

These include the massive pay rises granted to ministers at a time when the public finances are deterioration and the fiasco surrounding the planned crackdown on learner drivers.
