Water supplies improve countrywide

There has been some improvement in water supply in places around the country today. However, water restrictions are continuing in other parts.

Many local authorities are battling to conserve water as reservoirs are experiencing critically low supplies.

It is likely restrictions may continue for at least another week in an effort to replenish supplies.

Night time restrictions are in place in most counties and in worst affected areas, local authorities are providing tankers.

In Galway city, around 100 houses are without water, while up to 100 homes in Ennis are also receiving no supply.

In the midlands, crews are working around the clock to repair damaged pipes in Co Westmeath, while water services have returned to most homes in counties Laois, Leitrim and Mayo.

Dublin, however, is faced with restrictions for at least the next 10 days.

People are advised to check their local authority's website for full details.

Meanwhile in the North, the number of properties still affected by water problems in has fallen below 800.

The main areas still with problems are in counties Tyrone and Down.

The Northern Ireland Water Authority says it is focusing on repairing burst pipes and air locks in the main system.
