Cech: We will be motivated

Petr Cech warned Liverpool that Chelsea are fiercely motivated by the determination to avoid the pain of another Champions League semi-final defeat.

While he joined the club after last season’s defeat by Monaco, the Chelsea keeper is just as intent on avoiding a repeat of his despair at the Czech Republic’s Euro 2004 last-four defeat by Greece.

Indeed, he made it clear the Blues would not be resting on their laurels ahead of tonight’s semi-final second leg at Anfield after their Barclays Premiership title success at Bolton.

“We celebrated the title in the dressing-room but since then we have been thinking only about this game as we just need to take one more step,” declared Cech.

“Many of the players remember the feeling after the game against Monaco last season and they don’t want to repeat that. So we are ready and focused.

“I was also very disappointed when we lost against Greece in the semi-final of Euro 2004. It was a bad experience so I would like to reach the final as I don’t want to feel the same thing again.”
