Mayo man accused of raping daughter

A jury has been sworn in at the Central Criminal Court for the trial of a Mayo father charged with serious sexual assaults on his now teenage daughter.

A jury has been sworn in at the Central Criminal Court for the trial of a Mayo father charged with serious sexual assaults on his now teenage daughter.

The 48-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to three sample counts from an indictment of more than 50 charges and will be arraigned before the trial judge on further counts.

He has denied one count charge each of rape, oral rape and sexual assault on dates during 2000 - 2001 at venues in Co Mayo.

Mr Brendan Grehan SC, for the prosecution, and Mr Paddy McCarthy SC, for the defence told Mr Justice Paul Carney that the trial was expected to run for at least three days.
