Ireland’s aid budget is to increase by over 55% next year, to over £100m.

The Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Liz O'Donnell, says the massive increase will leave Ireland in a position to commit significant additional resources to the battle against HIV and AIDs in Africa.

Minister O’Donnell will accompany the Taoiseach in leading a special session of the UN at the end of June.

It will deal with the global efforts to fight HIV and AIDs.

AIDs is the primary cause of death in Africa.
