Former businessman Ben Dunne is giving evidence to the Moriarty Tribunal today about his relationship with the chairman of the Revenue Commissioners in the mid-1980s.

The tribunal is investigating a meeting between Mr Dunne and Seamus Pairceir that was allegedly arranged with the help of the Taoiseach at the time, Charles Haughey.

The two men are believed to have met in the mid-1980s to discuss concerns about huge tax liabilities facing the Dunne family trust.

The €30m tax bill was dismissed by the Revenue Commissioners in 1988.

During his evidence this morning, Ben Dunne said he had no recollection of a issuing a cheque for £280,000 in May 1987 that ended up in Mr Haughey’s bank account.
