Nearly 1,000 changes have been made to the Wikipedia internet encyclopaedia by computer users working for the North's civil service.

Nearly 1,000 changes have been made to the Wikipedia internet encyclopaedia by computer users working for the North's civil service.

The changes have been uncovered using a database that allows for the identification of computers that have been used to edit the website.

Most of the changes made by civil servants in the North are genuine, but some appear to be politically-motivated, including one describing the Irish as "evil".

Another says Christians usually refer to the Koran as the Devil's bible, while there are also unflattering comments made about people living in Warrenpoint and Crossgar, Co Down.

Civil servants in the North are allowed to use their work computers for personal reasons during non-office hours so there's nothing illegal or meriting disciplinary action in using them to edit Wikipedia.
