England international Alan Thompson was involved in a road accident in which a 15-year-old boy was injured, it emerged today.

The accident happened as the 30-year-old former Bolton and Aston Villa player drove home after playing for Celtic yesterday.

Teenager Jonathan Rose spent the night in hospital with cuts and bruises after he and the midfielder’s Range Rover were in collision in Glasgow.

The boy was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance after the accident at 7.30pm in Mearns Road in the Newton Mearns area of the city.

Thompson was not injured in the accident, which happened near his home.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said no report would be sent to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident.

Jonathan’s father, James Rose, said: “I’ve just spent the night in hospital with my son and don’t have anything to say.”
