32-year-old remanded over Drogheda murder

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 38-year-old Martin Murray in Drogheda this week.

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 38-year-old Martin Murray in Drogheda this week.

He appeared before a special sitting of the local district court this evening.

32-year-old David O’Brien, originally from Limerick but with an address at Mill Court, Mill Lane, Drogheda, is accused of murdering Mr Murray, whose body was found with stab wounds at Mill Lane early yesterday morning.

The court heard that when formally charged with the crime at 12.20pm he replied: “I am guilty, if I had the last week over again I would not change a thing.”

Judge William Hamill remanded O’Brien in custody to appear before Clover Hill district court in Dublin next Wednesday morning.

The judge also directed that he receive medical and psychiatric assessment while in custody.
