HIV prevention organisations are to raise the worrying increase of the disease in Ireland with the head of UN-Aids.

Dr Peter Piot is in Dublin today to meet with Government representatives and HIV support groups.

Dr Piot’s main work is in developing countries but he is hoping to raise awareness in this country.

He is also hoping to encourage the Government to provide more aid to tackle the problem in other third world regions.

It is hoped Ireland’s total aid package will be increased to €50m.
