Dutch Gold and Kris Kin will both be added to the field for the Vodafone Derby at a cost of £90,000 (€125,000) at next Monday’s supplementary stage at Epsom.
Clive Brittain gave Dutch Gold the thumbs-up for Epsom after the Victor Chandler Chester Vase winner delighted the Newmarket trainer in a gallop before racing at Yarmouth.
Partnered by Philip Robinson, who will have the mount in the premier Classic, Dutch Gold finished upsides his lead horse at the end of the mile work-out.
“We’re very pleased. That was very much what we wanted him to do, have a trip to the seaside,” said Brittain.
“We just gave him a spin round the track, so we are delighted with it. It was an exercise and a case of having a day out without racing.”
Kris Kin, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has been given the go ahead for the instead of the French equivalent on Sunday.
He will be ridden at Epsom on Saturday week by Kieren Fallon, who will be bidding for his second Derby triumph, having won on Oath for Henry Cecil in 1999.
“Kris Kin is going to Epsom,” said Joe Mercer, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail.
“There’s only one Derby. He’s a sporting owner who thinks that if the horse is good enough to win a French Derby he’s good enough to win at Epsom.
“I think this year’s Derby is a wide-open affair.”
