Nurses are set to escalate their campaign of industrial action today with two-hour work stoppages at 12 hospitals and mental health facilities across the country.

Six facilities will be hit between 10am and midday and another six between 2pm and 4pm in the afternoon.

Previously, the INO and PNA have limited their action to one-hour stoppages, but they are intensifying their campaign due to lack of progress on their demands for a 10% pay rise and 35-hour working week.

Around 300 out-patient appointments have been postponed because of today's stoppages, the vast majority of them at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin.
