History has been made with Gustavo Kuerten becoming the first Brazilian number one seed at a Grand Slam.
Kuerten reached world number one at the end of last year and is now seeded to play US Open champion Marat Safin in the final of the Australian Open, although the Russian is struggling to be fit with an elbow injury.
Wimbledon champion Pete Sampras, chasing a record 14th Grand Slam title, is the number three, but defending champion Andre Agassi is only sixth.
Martina Hingis, defending champion Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams head the women's seedings.
The draw for matches will be made tomorrow.
Ireland's Scott Barron and Kelly Liggan will play in the qualifiers.
