Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer, still registered as a Dublin City player, has been placed in temporary charge of English League Two club Mansfield Town.

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer, still registered as a Dublin City player, has been placed in temporary charge of English League Two club Mansfield Town.

Palmer was signed by former Vikings manager Roddy Collins this summer but has not played for the now-relegated premier division side in a number of weeks.

He was handed the Mansfield role following the suspension of their manager Keith Curle, who has been told to stay away from Field Mill pending the outcome of an internal inquiry.

The club declined to give details of the allegations.

Palmer will take charge of the Stags’ FA Cup first-round clash with Colchester at Field Mill on Saturday.
