A man in his 30s has been arrested today in connection with a suspected arson attack which killed a five-year-old girl.
The suspect was detained in the Sligo area after a blaze ripped through the home of Richard Connolly in Boyle, Co Roscommon, and his daughter Marie died.
The schoolgirl died in an upstairs bedroom of the home in the early hours of Monday just over a day after her mother, Teresa Keane, gave birth to twins.
Her killing sparked a manhunt across Roscommon and Sligo.
Gardaí had received reports that a man threatened a family member during a pub row in Carrick-on-Shannon at the weekend.
The suspect is being questioned at Boyle Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
Mr Connolly, who had been looking after Marie and her sisters, Lauren, aged eight and Naomi aged six, broke his back jumping from a first floor window with the other girls in his arms.
The 27-year-old is recovering in a Dublin hospital.
