Guilia aiming for Eden honours

Guilia bids to sign off for the season on a winning note in the Listed EBF River Eden Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield tomorrow.

Guilia bids to sign off for the season on a winning note in the Listed EBF River Eden Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield tomorrow.

Rae Guest’s filly was a narrow second in a Newbury Classic trial in May before going on to finish fifth behind Alexandrova in the Vodafone Oaks at Epsom in June.

Guilia has disappointed in two starts since and was most recently seen finishing well behind Acts Of Grace on soft ground at Ascot last month.

Guest gives the Galileo filly a first try on the all-weather surface at the Surrey venue and the trainer is hoping for an improved show.

He said: “Guilia came back from Haydock (sixth to Allegretto in the Lancashire Oaks on July 8) jarred up, as the ground was a lot quicker than we thought it would be. Then last time it was an absolute quagmire at Ascot, which didn’t suit her at all.

“Although she has not run on the Polytrack, she works on it all the time and goes very well, so that shouldn’t be a problem, and the trip should suit her.

“She seems very well in herself and it seems like a nice race with which to end her campaign. Guilia will stay in training next year. She has more filling out to do and should be a better filly given time.”

Taranto, a dual winner in France for Andre Fabre last term, and Lake Toya both make their seasonal bows for Godolphin in the one-mile-five-furlong test.

Alan Bailey’s consistent Cresta Gold and the James Given-trained prolific winner Trick Or Treat are both looking for their first success in Listed company as they line up in the 11-runner field.
