Kildare have a clean bill of health

Kildare senior footballers are reporting a clean bill of health ahead of their Leinster Senior Football Championship final against Dublin at Croke Park this Sunday.

Kildare senior footballers are reporting a clean bill of health ahead of their Leinster Senior Football Championship final against Dublin at Croke Park this Sunday.

It is good news for their manager Kieran McGeeney ahead of his first provincial final in charge of any side, having only retired from Gaelic football with Armagh two seasons ago.

Naas forward Eamon Callaghan was a slight doubt after sustaining a groin injury, but he has received the all-clear and trained last night with the squad.

Kildare are bidding to end Dublin's unbroken run in Leinster, which stretches back to 2005 when they beat Laois in the provincial decider.

The Lilywhites had not won a Leinster Senior Football Championship match since 2005 until an opening round victory over Offaly at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise in May.

However they had claimed wins in the All-Ireland qualifiers and reached last year's All-Ireland quarter-final, where they were beaten by Cork.

Sunday's final is the 121st Leinster Senior Football Championship final, and Kildare's first appearance since the Lilywhites lost the 2003 decider to Laois before an attendance of 63,000 at Croke Park.
