FÁS chairman Peter McLoone is expected to resign today in the wake of the controversy surrounding wasteful spending at the state training agency.
The other 16 members of the agency's board may also tender their resignations when they meet in Dublin.
The Government is believed to have initially told the directors to remain in place until new legislation is introduced to reduce the size of the board.
However, the coalition appeared to have changed its mind last month after a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General revealed details of how FÁS had wasted large sums of taxpayers' money.
Green Party leader John Gormley openly called for the board to resign, while the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Mary Coughlan, said she would accept resignations if they were offered.
Ms Coughlan is expected to publish legislation next week to allow for the number of board members to be reduced from 17 to 11.
