A young man has been killed in a crash in County Monaghan.

A young man has been killed in a crash in County Monaghan.

He was the driver of a car which went out of control at a bend on the Castleblayney to Dundalk road, at Magherakill, at 5.15am this morning.

The man in his late teens was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger, who was also in her late teens, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment to injuries which are not life threatening.

The scene of the crash has been closed to allow a forensic examination to take place, and diversions are in place.
