Steve Staunton is expected to be named in the Irish team to face Iran on Thursday after shrugging off a back injury that had left him doubtful for the game.

Niall Quinn may also be fit enough to take a place on the bench.

Both Staunton and Quinn trained in Tehran today, as did Gary Breen, who limped off the training ground yesterday complaining of a sore ankle.
