Gardaí are investigating a botched post office raid in north county Dublin overnight, during which a man and woman were held hostage.

A number of men entered the home of an An Post worker in St Andrews Park in Swords overnight.

She was brought to her job in Balbriggan this morning while the man was taken to another location.

But the attempted robbery was aborted and the man was released unharmed, after gardaí became aware of the incident and responded to a call to the post office.

No money was stolen. Investigating officers are now appealing for information.

Gardaí are also examining reports of suspicious activity at these two locations a week ago.
