Peslier glee at Moon appointment

Olivier Peslier has expressed delight after being chosen to ride Sea Moon in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster next weekend.

The crack French pilot inherits the plum mount aboard the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt due to the unavailability of Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes.

Moore is injured, while Hughes, who partnered the son of Beat Hollow to victory in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last month, has been retained to ride the Richard Hannon-trained Census.

Sea Moon is the short ante-post favourite for the final Classic of the season.

Peslier’s British agent, Shippy Ellis, said: “Olivier has been confirmed as the definite rider for Sea Moon.”

Peslier has a fine association with Stoute, having received the leg-up aboard Harbinger last season when the partnership claimed the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Ellis added: “It would be rather nice to think along the same lines as the result he got when he stepped in to ride Harbinger in the King George last season. He has ridden a lot of horses for Sir Michael over the years with great success.

“It is sad for Ryan to miss a ride of such quality, but a very nice spare ride to pick up. It is rare the ride on a hot favourite in a Classic comes up, but Olivier has ridden over 100 Group One winners now and a large proportion of those have come outside France.

“Obviously Olivier is delighted.”
