Godolphin ready for world domination

Godolphin have a major chance of ending the week with a Classic or two in the bag and the Dubai outfit can keep the winners ticking over in the meantime when Ancient World runs at Nottingham tomorrow.

Godolphin have a major chance of ending the week with a Classic or two in the bag and the Dubai outfit can keep the winners ticking over in the meantime when Ancient World runs at Nottingham tomorrow.

The ex-French four-year-old may not be as high up the pecking order as the likes of Snow Ridge, Sundrop and Punctilious, but he is well regarded by Sheikh Mohammed’s team and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get on the scoresheet.

Ancient World’s form in France last year is hard to evaluate as he was a wide-margin winner of two small races on soft ground and was never tested in high-class company, but he showed plenty of potential.

On his first run in the Godolphin colours in a listed race at Windsor three weeks ago he performed credibly before going down by two and a half lengths to Putra Pekan in a muddling small-field event.

It would be no surprise at all if Ancient World were to prove considerably better than that and with a run under his belt, he should be up to winning the Illuma – The Dawn Of A New Era Conditions Stakes.

John Gosden’s three-year-old Citrine Spirit must have every chance of getting back into the winning groove when she tackles the Cliff Smith 70th Birthday Celebration Fillies’ Handicap.

Six-length winner of a Nottingham maiden at the beginning of May, the grey finished third of 20 on her first foray into handicap company in a hot race at Ascot subsequently and should find tomorrow’s company a little less formidable.

She led home those who raced on the unfavoured stands side at the Berkshire track and looks to be on a favourable mark.

Michael Bell sends Juantorena to Newcastle for the St James Security Maiden Stakes and this son of Miswaki should step up on a highly promising debut run at Newmarket recently.

Juantorena, who is from a smart sprint family, led two furlongs out and was headed well inside the final furlong when beaten three-quarters of a length by the experienced Destinate, and looked a ready-made future winner. The drop back to five furlongs should suit.

Mark Johnston’s juveniles are a real force to be reckoned with and he sends the unbeaten Joseph Henry down the road from Middleham to Beverley’s evening meeting for the Brian Yeardley Continental Two Year Old Trophy.

The Mujadil colt sweated up badly before winning on his debut at Musselburgh, but seemed all the better for the experience when following up with a seven-length triumph at Nottingham, and he handles any type of ground.

Joseph Henry is one of the better youngsters seen out in the North at this stage of the season and he must go close if he continues to make normal improvement. The yard won this race last season with Great Scott.

Shivaree put in an eye-catching performance when third on her debut at Goodwood recently and with that run under her belt could be the answer to the main race on the card, the listed Hilary Needler Trophy.

Mick Channon’s filly came there to throw down a challenge but was run out of it by the principals, headed by Baltic Dip, and with the benefit of that experience should be on the premises tomorrow.

Ettrick Water had a productive season last year and looks the best bet at Kempton Park in the Pemberton Greenish Redfern Handicap.

Luca Cumani’s gelding will have benefited from a fifth-placed run behind Blue Trojan at Haydock Park and will not have to improve much to win tomorrow.
