Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness has been formally nominated to re-run for her Ireland East seat in this summer's European Parliament elections.

Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness has been formally nominated to re-run for her Ireland East seat in this summer's European Parliament elections.

She won the nomination at the party's special convention in Newbridge, Co. Kildare this afternoon.

McGuinness has told the convention that she has every confidence Fine Gael can repeat its 2004 success by winning two seats in the constituency.
