World Cup qualifier: Ireland to play Iran

The Republic of Ireland will play Iran in the tie to decide who goes to the World Cup Finals next year in Japan and South Korea.

Iran beat the United Arab Emirates 3-0 this afternoon in the second leg at the Al Nuhayyan Stadium, Abu Dhabi, winning the tie 4-0 on aggregate.

The goals came from Ali Daei after eight minutes, Bagheri after 70 minutes and Minavand after 78 minutes.

Both teams had a man sent off.

Iran had Jamshidi was sent off for a second bookable offence after just ten minutes, while the UAE had Abdulraham ordered from the pitch in the 52nd minute.

The first leg of the tie against Ireland is on November 10th in Dublin.
