Authorized raring to go

Connections of Derby hero Authorized declared themselves happy as their star colt’s next big test looms large on the horizon.

Connections of Derby hero Authorized declared themselves happy as their star colt’s next big test looms large on the horizon.

Having landed the Epsom showpiece by five lengths in June, the son of Montjeu was subsequently upstaged by Sir Michael Stoute’s reopposing Notnowcato in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.

Authorized returns to the fray at York on Tuesday, as one of seven bidding for top honours in the Juddmonte International.

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam said: “It is what racing is all about. Yes, it is a seriously tough race but it’s great to be involved. Authorized is in very good form and we’ve got to go.

“I’ve been very happy with his preparations and he worked really well with Frankie (Dettori) on board last Thursday.

“We jumped him out of the gates yesterday (Sunday) and Noel (O’Connor, who looks after the horse) said he had a job to pull him up,” he told www.peterchapplehyam.com.

Authorized already has a success over course and distance to his name, having won the Dante Stakes in similar conditions in May.

“The ground up there is good, good to soft in places but today it is meant to be dry at York. I think the ground will be perfect for him,” Chapple-Hyam added.
