A helicopter carrying members of Nepal's royal family has been reported missing over the Rara Lake in western Nepal.

The Civil Aviation Authority says the six passengers and crew members included Princess Prekshya Shah, younger sister of Queen Komal.

She had been married to Prince Dhirendra, younger brother of King Gyanendra, who was killed during the June 1 royal palace massacre.

The couple had separated after Dhirendra gave up his royal title and moved to London to marry a British woman. He was gunned down by Crown Prince Dipendra along with King Birendra, Queen Aiswarya and six other members of the royal family.

Prekshya had not attended the family dinner where the massacre occurred because she stayed home with back problems.

State-run Radio Nepal said army rescue helicopters had reached the site where the helicopter belonging to Fishtail Airlines was missing, but details were sketchy. The area is about 312 miles west of the capital Katmandu.
