Syrian jets resume raid near Turkey

A Syrian jet has resumed bombing a rebel-held region near the border with Turkey, officials and witnesses said today.

An Associated Press video journalist saw the plane strike an area around the Syrian town of Ras al-Ayn, just across the border from the Turkish town of Ceylanpinar, for a second day.

An official from the Ceylanpinar mayor’s office said the jet struck an area near the Turkish border “five times within a period of 10 minutes”.

The rebels wrested control of Ras al-Ayn from the forces of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime last week.

An estimated 20 people died during the air raid in Ras al-Ayn yesterday and another eight people died of injuries in Turkey.
