Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Tánaiste Mary Harney look set to clash over the so-called 'Bertie Bowl'.

According to reports, Ms Harney is set to tell her coalition partner that she cannot support his £550m project, after a critical report by independent consultants.

The report is believed to be highly critical of the Sports Campus Ireland plans and raises questions about the economic viability of the project.

It reportedly calls for further study on the cost implications and urges more talks with the FAI and IRFU over their stadium needs.

The report, which was commissioned by the Progressive Democrats, has not yet come before cabinet and it now looks as if the Minister will not examine it until the New Year.

With the General Election looming, the PDs are keen to display their separate identity.

Mary Harney is expected to tell the Taoiseach not to bank on her support for the Bertie Bowl.
