Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is to hold talks with Democratic Unionist Party leader Ian Paisley in London this week, it was confirmed today.
Mr Ahern will meet the unionist leader along with DUP MPs Peter Robinson and Nigel Dodds.
The meeting will take place at the Irish Embassy on Wednesday and is the first set of talks between the DUP and the Irish Government since the British general election.
A spokesman for the Irish Government said the Taoiseach would also meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the House of Commons.
The two leaders are due to discuss progress in the peace process.
It is understood European Union issues will also be on the agenda ahead of the critically-important European Council summit meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
European leaders are due to gather to discuss the future of the EU following the ‘No’ votes on the referendum in France and the Netherlands.
