A national demonstration against the ongoing war against Afghanistan is planned for Dublin on Saturday.

Protestors are expected to travel from all over Ireland to an assembly point at the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell St.

Rory Hearne of the Irish Anti-War Movement said: "A large turnout will turn up the heat on the Irish Government which has shamefully offered Irish airspace and Shannon Airport facilities to US military aircraft to further their attacks on Afghanistan in blatant defiance of Ireland’s neutrality."

He added: "Major protests are taking place all over the world against the war. Almost all the aid agencies are calling for an end or least a pause in the bombing because of the disastrous humanitarian impact on civilians in Afghanistan."
