Armed gardaí were called to a housing complex near Patrick's Street Dublin this morning because a man who climbed onto the roof of one of the buildings and threatened to throw himself off appeared to have a firearm.

The incident began just after 3am when the man was noticed by neighbours of the complex who alerted Gardaí

Dublin Fire Brigade attended with a ladder to aid the man if he chose to come down.

The scene at Bridge ford Street was sealed off while negotiations with the man took place.

He came down off the roof a short time later and brought to St James' Hospital for observation.

No arrest was made and no firearm was discovered – the reason for his threat is unknown, nor is it known whether he remains in hospital or not.
