Labour has called on the Government to make the benchmarking process more transparent to the public.

Labour has called on the Government to make the benchmarking process more transparent to the public.

This morning, the Tanaiste, Mary Harney, defended the scheme, which will cost Irish taxpayers an estimated €1bn annually.

Opposition politicians have called for a report into the scheme to be made public.

Labour spokeswoman Joan Burton said taxpayers are entitled to see what they are getting for their money.
