Croke Park body to reveal €650m savings in year
Figures to be published today are set to show the Croke Park Agreement having produced significant savings for the State in the past year.
The body overseeing implementation of the agreement is to publish data showing cost savings of some €650m for the public sector in the year to end March, in line with targets.
The report will also show public sector staff numbers falling by 17,300 during the first two years of the agreement and are down by 28,000 from the peak in 2009.
Speaking in Dublin this morning, Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton welcomed the figures.
"I think that the report will indicate that significant savings and changes have been made," she said.
"The key thing for public services is to do more for less, and to get good value for the money that taxpayers and citizens are contributing to run the State."
