Talks aimed at averting strike action by Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus drivers are due to get underway at the Labour Relations Commission today.

SIPTU and the National Bus and Railworkers Union were planning to begin the action at the weekend, but agreed to postpone the stoppages to allow for today's talks.

The strike was arranged to protest at plans by the two companies to shed around 600 jobs and take hundreds of buses out of service.

The NBRU was planning a one-day stoppage on Saturday at Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus, while SIPTU was set to begin an all-out strike at Dublin Bus yesterday.
