The fire that has been raging for 27 days at a landfill in Co Kildare has been extinguished today.

The fire that has been raging for 27 days at a landfill in Co Kildare has been extinguished today.

The blaze at Kerdiffstown, near Naas, broke out on the January 18.

Firefighters finally managed to put the fire out today and the Environmental Protection Agency has now secured the site.

Work is being done to remove fire-risk waste and deal with immediate health and safety issues there.

Fire services will also be maintaining a precautionary watch over the site until next week.
