Sinn Féin has called on the local authorities in Dublin to adopt a “zero waste” strategy for the capital.

In its submission to the review of the current Dublin waste management strategy, the party criticised the Government’s reliance on landfill and incineration and said more effort was needed to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

The party said there were numerous ways the authorities could work to bring about a “zero waste” situation, including fully-separated waste collection, the provision of composting bins to all households and the introduction of regulations to reduce packaging.
