Gardaí have issued an appeal for assistance following an assault, robbery and abduction in County Mayo early this morning.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for assistance following an assault, robbery and abduction in County Mayo early this morning.

Two men broke into the home of a man in his 60s on the outskirts of Foxford at around 1am.

The victim was beaten and robbed, before being bundled into a car and then thrown out about two miles from his home.

He was taken to Mayo General Hospital, but will be transferred to Dublin for treatment to an eye injury.

Gardaí in Swinford have appealed for witnesses to the incident.
