A British man has amassed a collection of 1,000 bricks.

Neil Brittlebank enjoys collecting the heavy items, which he finds in disused buildings, hedgerows and demolition sites – and he once made his wife carry a brick around while she was on holiday in France so he could put it in his collection.

The 78-year-old man – who even has a brick dating back to 1892 in his collection – said: "I just think it’s a shame not to preserve them, they are part of our history.

"I have one which is rather rare, in that it should say Ackrington Iron on it. But what it actually says is Ackrington Nori."
