Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips looks set to be fit to face Bolton at the weekend after a scan revealed no serious damage to his ankle.
Phillips twisted his ankle on Monday following his return to training after illness kept him out of the 1-1 draw with Newcastle at St James’ Park.
The initial fears were that he would be sidelined for the match with Sam Allardyce’s side but now Villa manager David O’Leary is more optimistic.
He said: “Kevin twisted his ankle and was sent for a scan but that was just a precaution. Every player these days is sent for them because you find out so much from them.
“The scan showed absolutely no damage and the medical people are saying there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be fit (for the weekend).”
