Unofficial strike action by drivers at a Dublin bus depot has left people across the west of the city stranded.

A spokeswoman for Dublin Bus said the drivers had been due to operate from a new terminus at Pearse Street in the city centre.

The drivers had been working from a temporary terminal at Dublin’s Wood Quay following a horrific bus accident at Wellington Quay in which five people lost their lives.

The spokeswoman said: “We had signed off on full agreement from unions but individual drivers have not turned up for work today.”

The strike action has affected nine bus routes servicing Chapilizard, Kilmainham, Celbridge, Maynooth, Lucan, Palmerstown and Leixlip.

There are no buses running on the routes 25, 25A, 26, 66 A, B and X, 67 and 67A.

Dublin bus said management at the Conyngham Road Depot is in talks with the drivers to get the service back as soon as possible.
